Australian ⁣indie-pop duo Royel otis⁢ has apologized following criticism of ​the lyrics in ​their latest single, “moody.” The song, released May 9, sparked controversy due to its chorus, which⁣ includes the line: ‌”My girl’s a b–h when she’s moody.”

Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic, who comprise Royel Otis, co-wrote the song with Amy Allen. The‌ band initially offered⁤ little comment on the song’s meaning, stating only, “It’s a song about a girl,” ⁣in promotional materials.

According ⁤to ⁤news.com.au, a⁤ former school⁢ friend of Pavlovic accused the band of ‍deleting negative social media comments about the ⁣song’s lyrics and video. The friend ⁣expressed disappointment, stating it was ‌disheartening to hear an Australian artist casually ⁣refer to women using that ⁢term in 2025.

“This song is written from a specific perspective, it⁤ is not intended to convey ⁣a broader view or ​standpoint about women in general,” Royel Otis said in a statement. “We apologise if anyone understood those lyrics otherwise.”
