Application Numbers and Eligibility
Initially, 325 staff members applied for the VEP as reported by RTÉ News.Eligibility required a minimum of two years of continuous service. Senior management where specifically excluded from applying.
Payments were capped at €300,000 and were calculated based on an employee’s exit salary, with no eligibility for further redundancy payments.
Payment Structure Based on Years of Service
The level of severance payment varied according to length of service:
- 2-5 years of service: Four weeks of pay per year of service.
- 5-10 years of service: Five weeks of pay per year of service.
- 10+ years of service: Six weeks of pay per year of service.

Role Suppression and Redeployment
According to Mr.Bakhurst, applications were approved when it was confirmed that the employee’s role could be eliminated (“suppressed”) or if equivalent savings could be achieved by suppressing an option post and/or redeploying an employee into that role as detailed in The journal.this indicates a focus on cost reduction and organizational restructuring.
