RadioTelevisión Canaria (RTVC) has announced a special blood donation drive scheduled for April 7, 2026, to coincide with World Health Day. The initiative is part of the broadcaster’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment and is conducted in collaboration with the General Directorate of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS).
The campaign, operating under the slogan DONA VIDA
, will utilize mobile extraction units located in the two primary capitals of the Canary Islands. These units will be available to the public during two specific time windows: from 09:00 to 13:00 and from 14:15 to 20:00.
Operational Logistics and Locations
To maximize accessibility and encourage public participation, the mobile units are strategically positioned in high-traffic areas of the archipelago’s capital cities. Verified locations for these extraction points include the Plaza de la Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the El Sebadal industrial estate in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
RTVC is integrating the drive into its broader media strategy, dedicating its radio and television programming to explain the importance of altruistic blood donation. The broadcaster’s coverage includes live reports from various extraction points, both fixed and mobile, across the Canary Islands.
Corporate Social Responsibility and Institutional Partnership
The partnership between the public broadcaster and the health service is a recurring annual commitment. María Méndez, the General Administrator of RadioTelevisión Canaria, has described the initiative as a renewed annual campaign and a commitment to both the Canary Islands society and the Directorate of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy.

The effort is supported by high-level coordination between RTVC and Iván Santiago Falcón, the Director General of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy. This collaboration aims to leverage the reach of the public media entity to address critical healthcare needs within the region.
Donor Eligibility and Requirements
In conjunction with the promotional campaign, guidelines for potential donors have been established to ensure safety and medical compliance. Eligibility criteria for donating blood in the Canary Islands include:
- Donors must be in good health.
- The age range for eligible donors is between 18 and 65 years.
- Donors must weigh more than 50 kilograms.
While the RTVC campaign focuses on mobile units in the capitals, the health service maintains that donations can also be made at any hospital located within the Canary Islands.
Strategic Objectives of the Campaign
The primary objective of the DONA VIDA
campaign is to increase the volume of blood donations to meet regional health demands. This includes efforts to recruit specific types of donors, such as the initiative to find 300 specific donors needed within the Canary Islands.
By aligning the drive with World Health Day on April 7, RTVC and the Canary Islands Health Service aim to synchronize a public health necessity with a global awareness event, utilizing the visibility of the region’s most recognized media personalities who have personally participated by donating at the mobile units.
