Spanish public service broadcaster RTVE will broadcast live LaLiga soccer matches for the first time in a decade, following a sublicensing agreement with DAZN. The agreement, finalized in January 2026, allows RTVE to air one LaLiga match per week for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
LaLiga broadcast Rights and RTVE
The first match aired under the new agreement was the January 16th contest between Espanyol and Girona. Prior to this, DAZN had been making one match per week available for free on its own platform. This move fulfills a Spanish broadcast regulation requiring one match per round of fixtures to be available on free-to-air (FTA) television. historically,Mediapro‘s Gol held these rights before the current arrangement with DAZN and RTVE.
Historical Context of LaLiga Broadcasting
RTVE regularly broadcast domestic Spanish soccer until 1990, before the rise of pay-television. The current sublicensing deal marks a return to this practice, albeit within the framework of modern broadcasting regulations.
Match Selection and European Competitions
Matches featuring Real Madrid and Barcelona will not be shown on RTVE. Though, clubs participating in European club competitions will be included in the RTVE broadcast schedule once their continental commitments are completed.
