First Look at the RX 9060 Non-XT
Just days after its official unveiling, early performance data for the AMD Radeon RX 9060 (without the “XT” designation) is emerging. Testing was conducted by the South Korean tech portal Technosaurus, but with a unique caveat: the card wasn’t available for individual purchase. Access was granted through a system integrator who provided a complete pre-built PC featuring the new GPU.
Performance Benchmarks: How Does it Stack Up?
The primary goal of the Technosaurus testing was to compare the RX 9060 Non-XT against two key competitors in the entry-level graphics card space: the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 and RTX 5060. To ensure accurate results, testing was performed on two distinct platforms: a Ryzen 5 7500f system representing the lower end of the market, and a more powerful Ryzen 9 9800x3d configuration to eliminate any potential CPU bottlenecks.
Results indicate the RX 9060 Non-XT delivers performance very close to the RTX 5060. In Full HD gaming with maximum settings, the RTX 5060 achieved an average of only 2% higher frame rates. Interestingly, the more powerful RX 9060 XT outperformed the non-XT variant by approximately 6.2%. The performance gap between the RX 9060 Non-XT and the RTX 5050 was more meaningful, with AMD’s card averaging 19% higher frame rates.
Design and Cooling
The RX 9060 Non-XT differentiates itself physically from its XT counterpart. It features a more compact design and utilizes a custom cooling solution developed by Sapphire. Despite its smaller size, the cooler proved capable of maintaining optimal temperatures during testing, operating quietly and efficiently.
Limited Availability and Driver Support
Currently, the RX 9060 Non-XT is not widely available for individual purchase. AMD is primarily targeting system integrators with this model, meaning consumers will likely only find it pre-installed in complete gaming PCs. Notably, AMD had already integrated driver support for the card in an older driver version (25.6.3), suggesting a considerable period of preparation prior to launch.
The Bottom Line: A Competitive Entry-Level Option
The early test results demonstrate that AMD has created a compelling entry-level graphics card with the RX 9060 Non-XT. Its performance places it firmly in the upper echelon of its segment, offering a viable choice to NVIDIA’s offerings. While limited availability currently restricts its reach, it presents an attractive option for gamers seeking a powerful yet affordable solution – provided it’s offered at a competitive total system price.
