Rugby Meets Football: How Mikel Arteta’s Global Coaching Network is Revolutionizing Arsenal’s Tactics

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is looking at various sports leaders and prominent figures in the country, including Eddie Jones and Scott Robertson, to devise measures to surpass his football rivals.

Arteta has revealed he is taking inspiration from the famous All Blacks to elevate his coaching approach at Arsenal. This has to do with the fact that he has built a network of elite head coaches from many sports around the world.

This week Arteta invited Scott Robertson’s New Zealand rugby team to Arsenal’s training facility at London Colney. Since taking up the coaching role, Arteta has actively participated in Zoom sessions with world-class high-performance coaches and mentors, drawing on the expertise of prominent figures from a variety of sports including rugby, football and basketball.

People he has consulted include Robertson, Eddie Jones, who coached England and Australia, Jones, who currently coaches Japan, and Steve Kerr, head coach of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and the U.S. Olympic basketball team. We also gained insight from NFL coaches Sean McVay and Matt LaFleur.
