Rulík Slams wild’s Trade of Jiříček,Praises Dobeš’ potential
czech National Team Coach Expresses Disbelief Over Defenseman’s Move,Highlights Young Goalie’s Promise
Czech Republic national hockey team coach Radim Rulík returned from a week-long trip to Montreal with a mix of excitement and frustration. While thrilled by the insights gained during his visit with former Canadiens star and current assistant coach Tomáš Plekanec, Rulík expressed strong disapproval over the Minnesota wild’s recent trade of defenseman David Jiříček.”I absolutely disagree with what they did,” Rulík stated during a press conference announcing the roster for the upcoming Swiss Games. “They have another right-shot defenseman from the same draft class, David Špaček. I think Minnesota wasn’t watching the world Championship and didn’t see a single game. I can’t understand how they could do something like this.”
rulík, who led the Czech team to a World Championship title earlier this year, believes the Wild are undervaluing Špaček’s potential. The 21-year-old defenseman was a key member of the Czech Republic’s gold medal-winning team in Prague and contributed to their silver medal finish at the World Juniors last year.
“For me, it’s crazy,” Rulík exclaimed. “Špaček has been developing as he was 20, and they don’t realize what a gem they have. They’ll leave him somewhere on the farm team, playing on a bottom pairing. It’s unbelievable. They think they know what they’re doing.”
Despite his criticism of the Jiříček trade, Rulík spoke enthusiastically about his trip to Montreal.
“I was there mainly as an observer,” he explained. “The focus was on Tomáš plekanec. He’s a legend in Montreal, and I take my hat off to him. They love him there, and they gave him everything he needed.”
Rulík and Plekanec attended Canadiens practices and games, as well as those of the AHL’s Laval Rocket. “I really enjoyed it because we saw everything we needed to see – practices and games,” Rulík said.
one player who caught Rulík’s eye on the Laval Rocket was 23-year-old goaltender Jakub Dobeš.”He was fantastic,” Rulík remarked.”I believe we have another goalie on the rise for the NHL. He has a grate mindset, he’s incredibly hard-working, and he’s big, wich is vital.I’m confident he’ll be there in two years.”
during their trip, Rulík and Plekanec also met with Václav Prospal, assistant coach of the Rochester Americans, and several Czech players, including Lukáš rousk, Martin Nečas, Ondřej Palát, Tomáš Hertl, and jiříček, who was still with the Columbus Blue Jackets at the time.
