Russell Leads FP2 at Canadian Grand Prix; Verstappen Quickest in FP1

Mercedes’ George russell set the fastest time in the second free practice (FP2) session at the Canadian Grand Prix, while Red BullS Max verstappen was quickest in FP1. McLaren rebounded in the afternoon session after struggling for pace earlier in the day.
Haas,celebrating their 200th race weekend,were among the first to take to the track in FP1. However, it was Verstappen who ultimately set the pace.
During FP2, Colapinto initially set a benchmark time, but Piastri, Tsunoda, Hamilton and Albon quickly surpassed it. Russell then posted a time of 1 minute, 13.482 seconds to take the top spot early in the session.
Shortly after Russell’s fastest lap, aston Martin’s Lance Stroll crashed at Turn 7, damaging his left-front tire and ending his session prematurely.
Albon, on soft tires, briefly took the lead before Russell reclaimed it with a time of 1 minute, 12.887 seconds. Russell further improved his time to 1 minute, 12.123 seconds on medium tires, finishing ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris by 0.028 seconds. Antonelli was third.
Verstappen finished ninth, 0.543 seconds off the pace, while most drivers set their fastest times on soft tires.
