Russia and Iran’s Nuclear Secrets: A Growing Concern for the U.S. and UK
Russia’s Transfer of Sensitive Information to Iran Raises Concerns Over Nuclear Proliferation
The United States and Britain have become increasingly concerned that Russia is transferring sensitive information and technology that could bring Iran closer to building a nuclear weapon.
As Russia continues its war in Ukraine, there are fears that Iran is providing it with ballistic missiles, and in return Russia is providing it with information and technology related to nuclear weapons.
Escalation of Military Ties Between Russia and Iran
Western officials familiar with the matter have revealed that Russia has been stepping up cooperation with Iran in recent months as it seeks to acquire a nuclear weapon.
U.S. and British officials discussed the issue in Washington as British Prime Minister Starmer met with U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House for a foreign policy strategy meeting.
Concerns Over Iran’s Nuclear Activities
The Biden administration remains deeply concerned about Iran’s nuclear activities, according to a White House National Security Council spokesman.
The spokesman said that President Biden has made clear he is prepared to use the full range of national power to prevent nuclear escalation by Iran.
International Response
Foreign ministers of the G7 countries have condemned Iran’s export of ballistic missiles and Russia’s procurement of them, calling on Iran to “immediately end all support for Russia’s illegal and unjust war against Ukraine.”
The international community remains vigilant in monitoring the situation and working to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
