Russia Bombards Syrian Anti-Government Forces Amid Intensifying Aleppo Conflict
Russian Airstrikes Target Aleppo Rebels
The Russian military reported that its air force bombed anti-government forces in Syria. This action aimed to drive out rebels who launched a major attack in the city of Aleppo. Various Russian news agencies shared this information.
On Friday, November 29, Syrian opposition forces and their Turkish allies struck the city. They executed a rapid assault against government troops supported by Iran and Russia. This battle is one of the deadliest in recent years of Syria’s civil war.
A spokesperson from the Russian Defense Ministry’s Center for Reconciliation stated that Russian airstrikes targeted illegal armed groups, checkpoints, warehouses, and terrorist artillery positions. They claimed that 200 militants were “destroyed” in the past 24 hours.
The accuracy of this number has not been verified by AFP. Oleg Ignasyuk, the deputy head of the Russian reconciliation center, stated that operations to fend off extremist aggression continue.
On Saturday, November 30, Syrian authorities closed the airport in Aleppo and all roads leading to the city. This decision followed reports from opposition groups claiming they reached the heart of Aleppo.
