A train derailment in Russia’s Bryansk region has left at least seven dead and dozens injured after a bridge collapsed onto railway tracks. The incident occurred as a passenger train traveling from Moscow was struck by several heavy trucks falling from the overpass.
Emergency crews are on scene, working to extract survivors from the wreckage. At least 69 people have been reported injured. Moscow’s interregional transport prosecutor’s office has launched an inquiry into the bridge collapse.
Adding to the chaos, a second bridge collapsed in Russia’s Kursk region just hours later as a freight train crossed it, according to Alexander Khinshtein, acting governor of Kursk Oblast. The train’s driver was reportedly injured.
Russian authorities are calling the Bryansk incident an act of “illegal interference.” Some Russian Telegram channels have speculated, without providing evidence, that the bridge was “blown up.”
