Russia Launches New Hypersonic Missile at Ukraine’s Dnipro, Flight Time 15 Minutes
Ukrainian Intelligence Reports New Russian Missile Capabilities
On November 22, 2024, Ukrainian officials reported that a new type of hypersonic ballistic missile was launched by Russia at the city of Dnipro. The missile had a flight time of approximately 15 minutes and reached speeds exceeding Mach 11, which equals 3,773 meters per second, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine.
The missile reportedly carried six warheads, each equipped with additional munitions. This information was highlighted in a statement from the Ukrainian intelligence service, which noted the missile’s speed during the final flight phase.
Ukrainian authorities indicated that the missile used in the attack was likely part of Russia’s “Kedr” missile system. Initially, Ukraine suspected that Russia had launched an intercontinental ballistic missile. However, U.S. and NATO representatives confirmed that it was a medium-range ballistic missile, in line with previous statements from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In response to the missile launch, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the international community to react swiftly. NATO scheduled an emergency meeting with Ukraine in Brussels to address the attack.
