Russia Outlines Three Conditions for Ending War in Ukraine
Moscow – In a recent interview with American journalist Tucker carlson, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov detailed Moscow’s objectives in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine and outlined three key conditions for a ceasefire.
Lavrov refuted claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin is unwilling to negotiate with Ukraine, asserting that it was ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky who blocked any possibility of talks two years ago.
“Why don’t you tell [Zelensky] to publicly revoke [his ban]? That would be a signal that he wants negotiations,” Lavrov challenged.
When pressed on Russia’s demands for ending the war, Lavrov directed Carlson to a speech putin delivered in June, where the Russian leader laid out three conditions:
Withdrawal of ukrainian forces from Russian territory: This refers to regions in eastern Ukraine that Russia annexed in 2014.
Protection of Russian-speaking populations: Russia has repeatedly expressed concerns about the treatment of Russian speakers in Ukraine.
* Ukraine’s neutrality and denuclearization: Moscow insists that Ukraine must remain outside of NATO and renounce any aspirations to develop nuclear weapons.
“The main principle is Ukraine’s non-bloc status,” Lavrov emphasized.”No NATO. Absolutely not. no military bases, no military exercises on Ukrainian soil with the participation of foreign troops.”
Lavrov also stressed that Russia would not accept any agreement that allows Ukraine to continue discriminating against Russian language, media, culture, and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
“We don’t play double games,” Lavrov stated.
