Russia Ready to Use “Any Means” to Prevent West From Inflicting “Strategic Defeat
Russia Warns West After Hypersonic Missile Strike, Says ‘Red Lines’ Cannot Be Moved
Moscow, Russia - In a bombshell interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared that Russia’s recent deployment of a hypersonic missile against Ukraine serves as a stark warning to the West. Lavrov emphasized that Russia is prepared to utilize any means necessary to prevent the west from achieving its goal of inflicting a “strategic defeat” on the nation.
The interview, conducted by carlson and cited by Russian news agency TASS, comes after Russia confirmed the use of its new “Oreshnik” hypersonic missile in a strike on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro on November 21st.
Lavrov stated that Russia would send further messages if the West fails to heed the implications of this deployment. He stressed that a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine hinges on Kyiv abandoning its NATO aspirations, closing Western military bases within its borders, and ceasing joint military exercises with foreign troops.
The Russian foreign minister’s comments follow statements from President Vladimir Putin, who confirmed the use of the “Oreshnik” missile in the Dnipro strike. Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, clarified that the attack was a direct response to the West’s decision to allow Ukraine to fire long-range conventional missiles into Russian territory.
Lavrov warned that Western belief in the malleability of Russia’s ”red lines” is a grave miscalculation. “If they are following the logic which some Westerners have been pronouncing lately, that don’t believe that Russia has red lines, they announced their red lines, these red lines are being moved again and again. This is a very serious mistake,” Lavrov stated.
He also expressed concern over statements from certain NATO officials suggesting the possibility of preemptive strikes against Russia.
Despite the escalating tensions, Lavrov asserted that Russia desires normalized relations with the United States and sees no reason why the two nations cannot cooperate. He indicated that Russia would evaluate the incoming Biden management based on concrete actions, while acknowledging that outgoing President Donald Trump leaves behind a complex legacy.
Lavrov described Trump as a “strong and friendly politician” but clarified that he is not pro-Russian. He emphasized that the onus lies with Trump to initiate further engagement with Russia.
The Russian foreign minister also addressed the issue of sanctions, stating that while many in Russia would like to see their lifting as a condition for resolving the Ukrainian crisis, the country has not only endured but grown stronger under their weight.
“And we learned a lot after the sanctions started. The sanctions started under President Obama. they continued in a very big way under the first term of Donald Trump. And these sanctions under the Biden administration are absolutely unprecedented. But what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, you know. they would never kill us, so they are making us stronger,” Lavrov concluded.
