International Involvement by North Korea
Reports indicate that Russia is recruiting foreign fighters, including from Yemen, which is struggling with its civil war. The Financial Times reported that Yemeni citizens are being promised high salaries and Russian citizenship to join the conflict in Ukraine. These arrangements are facilitated by companies associated with the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

On Sunday, officials in Russia reported that their air defense systems intercepted seven Ukrainian missiles in Kursk. Additionally, debris from a destroyed Ukrainian drone caused a fire at an industrial facility in Kaluga, but no injuries were reported. In Kyiv, the mayor confirmed that air defenses were active in response to new Russian drone attacks.
China’s Concerns Over North Korea-Russia Cooperation
Beijing is increasingly uneasy about the growing military cooperation between Russia and North Korea. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell stated that China fears North Korean troops might engage in actions contrary to Chinese interests due to their alliance with Russia. Recently, North Korea sent 10,000 troops to aid Russia in the conflict.

A senior North Korean general was reported injured in a recent Ukrainian missile strike in Kursk. This marks a significant event as it is the first instance of a high-ranking North Korean officer being affected by the ongoing war.
Speculation About Putin’s Health
There have been ongoing discussions regarding the health of Russian President Vladimir Putin. A video showing Putin seemingly immobile for an extended period has raised concerns among observers. Some speculate about irregularities in his physical state. The Kremlin has previously announced that Putin is in good health following routine medical check-ups.
Political Developments in Russia
Russia plans to appoint Alexander Darchiev as the new ambassador to the United States. Moreover, Putin signed a law allowing individuals joining the military for the Ukraine war to clear debts of nearly $100,000.
