Russia Unleashes Its Fury: Fifth Karakurt-Class Missile Boat Takes to the Seas
Azerbaijan to Strengthen Artillery Forces with Self-Propelled Howitzers
The Azerbaijani armed forces are prioritizing the addition of self-propelled howitzers to enhance their artillery capabilities. According to Army Recognition, the Azerbaijani army’s artillery arsenal currently comprises 1,251 weapons units as of 2023.
Azerbaijan plans to significantly increase its defense budget in the coming years, focusing on modernizing military capabilities, reducing dependence on imports, and increasing domestic production.
DITA 155mm Wheeled Self-Propelled Gun
The DITA 155mm wheeled self-propelled gun was launched in February 2021. With its long range and high automation, the combat crew consists of only 2 people, making it an effective counterattack vehicle. The gun has an elevation angle of up to 70 degrees, providing a maximum range of 39km when using conventional artillery shells.
The gun’s specifications include a combat weight of 29 tons, a maximum speed of up to 25km/h in the field and 90km/h on the highway, with an operating range of about 300 to 600km, depending on specific conditions.
The advanced fire control system is capable of receiving target parameters from reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), allowing for a symbiotic model “Cannon + UAV”. The automatic loading system enables the gun to have a firing rate of 6 rounds/minute and takes only 45 seconds to leave the position after completing the firing, increasing the survivability of this weapon on the battlefield.
Russia Tests Fifth Karakurt-Class Missile Boat
Russia’s Zelenodol shipyard has announced the start of trials of the Typhoon small missile ship, the fifth ship of the Karakurt class (Project 22800 Karakurt) built for the country’s navy.
The ship will undergo dock trials, followed by state sea trials. After completing this process, it will join the Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet, expected by the end of this year. Previously, this unit received and commissioned four Karakurt-class missile boats since late 2017.

The Karakurt-class missile boats are being developed by specialists from the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau in Saint Petersburg, Russia. A total of 18 ships of this class will be built for the Pacific, Baltic, and Black Sea fleets.
The Karakurt-class missile boats have a length of 67m, a width of 11m, a full load displacement of 870 tons, a maximum speed of 55km/h, and can operate continuously at sea for about 12 days, with a range of more than 4,000km. The ship’s weapons include a 3C14-RK multi-purpose launcher for eight Kalibr cruise missiles, a 76mm AK-176MA gun, a Pantsir-M air defense missile system, and two machine guns. Additionally, the ship is equipped with an Orlan-10 tactical reconnaissance drone.
The ship is deployed to carry out combat missions at sea and on waterways, including the destruction of important facilities in coastal areas and the destruction of enemy surface forces. The ship can perform independent missions or become part of the Russian Navy’s strike group.
