Russian Drone Attacks Strike Kharkiv and Surrounding Region

He noted that attacks often involve a mix of Shahed drones, Molniya-type UAVs, and guided aerial bombs.

On April 14, Russian forces struck the Pechenihy dam in Chuhuiv district with six guided aerial bombs, according to UNITED24 Media and regional administration statements. The dam, described as one of the largest reservoirs in Kharkiv region and a critical water supply facility, was hit while water levels were at maximum, raising concerns about potential flooding and disruption to water access for Kharkiv and surrounding communities.

Earlier strikes on April 15 and 16 targeted civilian businesses in Merefa, a town 20 kilometers east of Kharkiv. On April 16, a drone attack killed one woman and injured six others, including three women with moderate injuries and two men suffering acute stress reactions, according to the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration. Workers had gathered to clean up damage from the previous day’s attack when the new strike occurred.

Over the past day, Russian forces launched two missiles, one glide bomb, and approximately 60 drones of various types against Kharkiv and 14 settlements in the oblast, according to Governor Syniehubov. Attacks have damaged residential buildings, power networks, schools, lyceums, and gardening cooperatives across districts including Industrialnyi, Nemyshlianskyi, Saltivskyi, Bohodukhiv, Izium, and Chuhuiv.

Reuters reported on April 2 that Russian forces maintained a day-long drone barrage on Kharkiv, indicating a pattern of sustained aerial pressure on the city and its surroundings.
