Russian forces launched a series of drone and missile strikes across Kharkiv and surrounding areas on April 18, 2026, targeting civilian infrastructure and residential zones, according to regional officials and verified reports.

The attacks included strikes on Balakliia, where explosions were reported in the morning, as confirmed by local sources cited in Ukrainian media. In Kharkiv city, drone attacks damaged a molasses storage reservoir, causing part of the liquid to spill into nearby water bodies, according to reports from objectiv.tv and Ukrainskaya Pravda.

Additional drone strikes hit settlements across Kharkiv oblast, injuring three people, as reported by Korrespondent.net. The barrage is part of a sustained pattern of Russian aerial attacks on the region, which has seen repeated targeting of energy, water, and transport infrastructure over recent days.

Governor Oleh Syniehubov confirmed that Russian forces continue to strike civilian settlements and critical infrastructure, emphasizing that emergency services remain deployed to respond to damage and assist affected residents. He noted that attacks often involve a mix of Shahed drones, Molniya-type UAVs, and guided aerial bombs.

On April 14, Russian forces struck the Pechenihy dam in Chuhuiv district with six guided aerial bombs, according to UNITED24 Media and regional administration statements. The dam, described as one of the largest reservoirs in Kharkiv region and a critical water supply facility, was hit while water levels were at maximum, raising concerns about potential flooding and disruption to water access for Kharkiv and surrounding communities.

Earlier strikes on April 15 and 16 targeted civilian businesses in Merefa, a town 20 kilometers east of Kharkiv. On April 16, a drone attack killed one woman and injured six others, including three women with moderate injuries and two men suffering acute stress reactions, according to the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration. Workers had gathered to clean up damage from the previous day’s attack when the new strike occurred.

Over the past day, Russian forces launched two missiles, one glide bomb, and approximately 60 drones of various types against Kharkiv and 14 settlements in the oblast, according to Governor Syniehubov. Attacks have damaged residential buildings, power networks, schools, lyceums, and gardening cooperatives across districts including Industrialnyi, Nemyshlianskyi, Saltivskyi, Bohodukhiv, Izium, and Chuhuiv.

Reuters reported on April 2 that Russian forces maintained a day-long drone barrage on Kharkiv, indicating a pattern of sustained aerial pressure on the city and its surroundings. The cumulative impact of these strikes continues to strain civilian infrastructure and emergency response capabilities in the region.

As of April 18, no official casualty figures for the day’s attacks have been released beyond the injuries reported in Merefa and Kharkiv oblast. Authorities continue to assess damage and urge residents to follow safety guidelines during air alerts.
