Russian Drone Factory Fire Destroys $16 Million in Shahed Parts
Russian drone Factory Engulfed in Flames, Devastating Moscow’s War Effort
Alabuga, Russia – A massive fire ripped through a Russian drone factory in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, incinerating a stockpile of parts for Iranian-made Shahed drones used to attack Ukraine. Ukrainian intelligence reports the blaze destroyed 65 drone fuselages and components for 400 Shahed-136 drones, dealing a significant blow to Russia’s drone warfare capabilities.
“The fire destroyed 65 fuselages of attack drones, as well as engines, navigation systems, and thermal imaging cameras intended for the production of 400 Shahed-136 units,” Ukrainian military intelligence said in a statement. The estimated cost of the damage is a staggering $16 million.
While the exact cause and timing of the fire remain unclear, Ukrainian officials emphasized that Russia will be held accountable for its actions against Ukraine. This incident follows a series of suspected Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory, including a strike on a drone factory in Tatarstan in April.
The April attack targeted a facility assembling Iranian-made Shahed drones, rebranded as “Geran-2” for the Russian market, and was reportedly carried out by Ukrainian special forces.
The fire at the Alabuga factory marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, highlighting Ukraine’s growing ability to target Russia’s military infrastructure. The loss of hundreds of drone components represents a major setback for Moscow’s war effort, potentially hindering its ability to launch future attacks on Ukrainian targets.
