MOSCOW (AP)‌ — A high-ranking member of the Russian⁣ Armed Forces General staff died Friday after⁣ a bomb detonated⁤ in his vehicle in Balashikha,a town ⁣near Moscow,according to Russian ⁣authorities.

Svetlana Petrenko,a spokeswoman for the Russian Investigative ⁤Committee,identified the deceased as Gen. Yaroslav moskalik, deputy ⁢director of the General ‍Directorate of Operations of the Russian⁢ General Staff. ⁤Petrenko stated that initial investigations suggest ‍the⁢ explosive device was homemade and contained shrapnel.

“A criminal case has⁤ been ​initiated regarding ⁢the murder of Moskalik,” ‌Petrenko said in a statement ‍released on Telegram. Investigators are currently examining the scene. As of now,‌ no group has claimed obligation for the attack.
