Casper Ruud, visibly struggling with a left knee injury, was defeated by Nuno Borges in the second round of the French Open. Borges won 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0. Ruud, a two-time finalist at Roland Garros, revealed he has been dealing with intermittent pain throughout the clay-court season.
Ruud had reached at least the semifinals in Paris for the past three years. This marks his earliest exit since 2018. He said the knee pain began in Monte Carlo in April, and medical exams in Madrid did not fully resolve the issue. He withdrew from the Geneva Open to rest, but it wasn’t enough.
Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion, recovered from dropping a set to defeat Fabian Marozsan 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Alcaraz will face Damir Dzumhur in the next round.
