Casper Ruud, ⁣visibly struggling with a left knee injury, was defeated by Nuno Borges‌ in the ⁣second round of the French Open. Borges won 2-6,⁤ 6-4,⁣ 6-1, 6-0. Ruud, a ​two-time finalist at Roland ‌Garros, revealed he‍ has been dealing with intermittent pain throughout the clay-court season.

Ruud had reached at least the semifinals in Paris for the past three years. This⁣ marks his ⁢earliest exit since 2018. He said the knee pain began in‍ Monte⁢ Carlo in April, and medical‍ exams in Madrid did‌ not fully resolve the issue. He withdrew ‍from the Geneva Open to⁣ rest, but it wasn’t enough.

Carlos ⁢Alcaraz, the defending champion, ‍recovered from dropping a set to defeat ‌Fabian Marozsan 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Alcaraz will face⁤ Damir Dzumhur in ⁢the next round.
