Ryan Mason,formerly of Tottenham,has been appointed as the new head coach of West bromwich Albion,signing a three-year contract. the move signifies a fresh chapter for both Mason and the Championship club.
West brom swiftly targeted Mason after dismissing Tony Mowbray on April 21. Despite Tottenham’s demanding 2024-25 season, which culminated in Europa League qualification on May 25, Mason accepted West Brom’s offer after a brief holiday, marking his first permanent managerial role. The club hopes Mason’s leadership will boost their Championship ambitions and improve their football management strategy.
At 33, Mason is now the youngest head coach in the Championship, concluding his seven-year coaching stint with Tottenham. His journey includes progressing through Tottenham’s academy and making 70 appearances for the club. A fractured skull sustained in 2018 during a Premier League game for Hull against Chelsea forced him to retire early.
Before joining West Brom, Mason had discussions with Anderlecht in October, but ultimately chose to remain at Tottenham. He played a role in Tottenham securing their first trophy as 2008. His previous caretaker roles at Tottenham, including leading the team in the 2021 Carabao Cup final, positioned him as a promising managerial prospect. West Brom finished ninth in the Championship last season. Mowbray’s dismissal in April followed his appointment in January, replacing Carlos Corberan, who departed for Valencia.
