Ryan Roslansky, executive vice president of LinkedIn and Microsoft 365, is leaving Microsoft after nearly 18 years with the company and its professional network subsidiary, according to an announcement on The Official Microsoft Blog. In a pair of communications published by Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella and Roslansky himself, the companies outlined leadership adjustments across LinkedIn and Microsoft’s productivity suite as Roslansky plans to stay on through the end of the calendar year as an advisor to Nadella to assist with the transition.
Leadership Changes Across Microsoft and LinkedIn
Nadella stated in his message to employees that Roslansky leaves the organization in a strong position following recent product releases. Over the past year, Roslansky’s team integrated product, engineering, and design foundations for Microsoft Copilot, positioning Office to run across models and form factors.
Effective immediately, several structural reporting changes take effect within the engineering and product groups. Sumit Chauhan and Lan Ye will report to Charles Lamanna, while Jon Friedman will report to Jacob Andreou. Meanwhile, Dan Shapero continues in his role as CEO of LinkedIn, and Mohak Shroff continues in his role, with both executives reporting directly to Nadella.
Roslansky Explains Decision to Step Down
In his farewell message to employees, Roslansky recounted teaching himself to code in 1996 as a college freshman to help students find housing before joining LinkedIn in 2009 as Jeff Weiner’s first hire. He took over as LinkedIn CEO in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, guiding the platform past one billion members while nearly tripling its business.
Reflecting on his departure, Roslansky wrote that leading the next phase of the Microsoft 365 AI integration required being based in Redmond full time. I know what it would take for me to lead the next phase of this work well: being in Redmond full time, every day,
Roslansky wrote, noting that his family remains rooted in the Bay Area.

I know what it would take for me to lead the next phase of this work well: being in Redmond full time, every day. But my life and my family’s life are here in the Bay Area. My wife Leigh gives her time to more local organizations than I can keep track of. Our youngest daughter just started high school, and our dog Buddy remains deeply committed to the trails on the Peninsula!
Ryan Roslansky
Nadella praised Roslansky’s contributions and clarity of thinking over his two-decade tenure.
Over his nearly two decades at Microsoft, Ryan has helped shape how people around the world find opportunity, build their careers, and get their work done,
Nadella stated in his memo on The Official Microsoft Blog.
