Expanded Carry-On Policy Now in Effect
Ryanair has completed the rollout of new, larger carry-on bag sizers at all 235 of its airports throughout Europe, effective September 4, 2024. The airline’s standard free carry-on bag allowance has increased to 40 x 30 x 20cm, a 33% increase in size compared to the previous EU standard of 40 x 30 x 15cm.
Passengers are permitted one free carry-on bag, which must fit comfortably under the seat in front of them. This change aims to provide more convenience for travelers while maintaining cabin space efficiency.
Options for Additional Baggage
For passengers traveling with additional carry-on items, Ryanair’s Priority Boarding service offers a convenient solution. This service guarantees boarding priority and allows passengers to bring an additional carry-on bag. Passengers can also purchase checked baggage during the booking process if they prefer.
Compliance and Fees
ryanair emphasizes the importance of adhering to the new size limits. Passengers whose carry-on bags exceed the permitted dimensions will be required to pay the standard checked baggage fee at the boarding gate. The airline has “resized” all airport bag sizers to reflect the new, larger allowance.
Ryanair Chief Marketing Officer, Dara Brady, stated the new policy is designed to enhance the customer experience by offering a more generous free carry-on allowance.
