Deal Follows US Court Ruling and Prior Conflict
Ryanair and online travel giant Booking.com announced a partnership on Tuesday, allowing Booking.com and its related sites (Kayak, Priceline, and Agoda) to sell Ryanair flights. This agreement comes after a period of legal conflict where Ryanair accused Booking Holdings-owned sites of illegally selling its flights and adding unauthorized charges following a US court ruling in Ryanair’s favor regarding a screen-scraping case.
The partnership will enable customers booking holidays through Booking.com, Kayak, Priceline, and Agoda to purchase Ryanair flights as part of their travel packages.
Transparency and Customer Benefits
Dara O’Brady, Ryanair chief marketing officer, stated the deal will ensure “full price transparency” for customers and provide them with direct flight updates to their mobile phones. Todd Henrich, Booking Holdings senior vice-president, expressed his company’s pleasure in partnering with Ryanair to “give travellers greater choice and value.”
Expanding Partnerships for Ryanair
This partnership represents the latest in a series of agreements Ryanair has established with online travel agents since early 2023.the airline has been actively seeking to collaborate with OTAs following its successful legal challenge against Booking.com’s practice of screen scraping-automatically extracting data from Ryanair’s website without authorization.
