Ryanair Announces Winter 2025 Routes, Demands Tax Cuts
On August 27, 2025, Ryanair, the UK’s largest passenger airline, unveiled its Winter 2025 schedule for London adn the broader UK market. The airline will introduce five new routes: from London Luton to Wroclaw,Poland, and four new routes from London Stansted to Lübeck and Münster in Germany,Murcia in Spain, and Trapani in Italy.
Ryanair highlighted that Stansted Airport now offers connections to more European destinations than Heathrow Airport, and at a significantly lower cost. The airline is advocating for the abolition of Air Passenger Duty (APD) to stimulate further growth.
APD Abolition as a Growth Catalyst
The airline argues that abolishing APD would unlock economic growth. Rachel Reeves, the shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, has been identified as a figure capable of delivering this growth, contingent on abolishing APD.
Criticism of UK Air Traffic Control (NATS)
Ryanair has also sharply criticized the performance of NATS, the UK’s air traffic control service. The airline alleges ongoing failures and mismanagement under the leadership of CEO Martin Rolfe.
Ryanair contends that the government, which holds a 49% stake in NATS, has the authority to replace Rolfe, despite claims to the contrary by Heidi Alexander. The airline asserts that NATS will not improve while led by what it describes as ”failed, overpaid bureaucrats.”
Ryanair believes replacing Rolfe with a competent leader would improve the efficiency of UK air traffic control, leading to a better and more punctual travel experiance for passengers, particularly during the upcoming winter season.
