Ryder Cup Triumph: ‘Una Famiglia’ Documentary Reveals Team Bonding Behind Europe’s Victory
A new documentary titled “Una Famiglia” shows the story behind Europe’s Ryder Cup victory in Rome in 2023. The film will be available on the Ryder Cup YouTube channel starting December 3.
Captain Luke Donald led his team to victory after they practiced together at Marco Simone before the BMW PGA Championship. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating that a fireside chat brought the players closer. “We had a great fireside chat where we opened up together as a team,” Donald explains in the film.
Rory McIlroy had an outstanding performance at the Ryder Cup. He noted that while practice at Marco Simone was beneficial, the real strength came from the personal connections made off the course. “People became vulnerable and told their story,” McIlroy said.
With some veteran players absent, McIlroy took on a leadership role along with Jon Rahm. McIlroy acknowledged that seeing successful players be vulnerable helped strengthen their bond. “It creates a bond and a sense of security,” he stated.
Donald views the Ryder Cup as a positive force amid tensions in professional golf, especially with recent player moves to LIV Golf.
The documentary also covers the infamous “cap gate” incident involving Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay’s caddie. McIlroy recalls, “As soon as I saw anyone with an American jersey, I went after them.” He reflects on how the incident fueled their determination to win.
Overall, “Una Famiglia” highlights the emotional connections and teamwork that led Europe to reclaim the Ryder Cup.
