AMD Ryzen 5 9600X3D Gaming Chip Teased
AMD might release another mid-range processor, the Ryzen 5 9600X3D. The potential budget gaming chip was listed in AMD’s driver notes for the Radeon AI Pro R9700,according to WCCFTech.The listing was spotted by MelodicWarrior on X.
The driver page mentions four CPUs ending in X3D: the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, Ryzen 9 9900X3D, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, and the unreleased Ryzen 5 9600X3D.
The X3D suffix indicates the use of AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology. This technology stacks a chiplet containing L3 cache below the chiplet containing the cores. The extra cache benefits games,wich rely on rapid access to local cache.
The existence and release of this chip are not confirmed. It may only be available in PCs made by system integrators, or in specific regions or retailers, like the Ryzen 5 5600X3D.
The chip could be manufactured using leftover chiplets from other Ryzen X3D chips. The spotter on X suggested it will launch to system integrators first, and later to the DIY market toward the end of the year.
The existing Ryzen 5 9600X has six cores based on the zen 5 architecture. It features 32 MB of L3 cache, a 3.9 GHz base clock, and a 5.4 GHz boost clock.
Existing Ryzen 9000-series X3D chips do not see a significant drop in clock speed with 3D V-Cache. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D maintains the same speeds as its non-3D V-Cache version, and the Ryzen 9 9900X3D boosts only 100 MHz lower than the Ryzen 9 9900X.
Clock speeds should be maintained between the 9600X and the 9600X3D. Another 64 MB slice of L3 cache could be loaded under the existing six-core CCD, for a total of 96 MB.
That would be a ample amount of L3 cache for a mid-range processor, which should substantially impact gaming performance. When Tom’s Hardware tested the Ryzen 5 5600X3D, they found it outperformed the Ryzen 5 5600X in games and nearly matched the ryzen 7 5800X3D.
