Saab Develops Nimbrix: An Autonomous ⁢Anti-Drone System

Countering Drone Threats with Autonomous Robotics

Saab is developing Nimbrix, a “fire and forget” robotic system designed to intercept and neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles⁣ (uavs). The⁢ system, initiated⁣ in 2024, ⁤offers a cost-effective ⁣response to the increasing prevalence of ‍low-cost drone threats, according to a press release⁤ from Saab. Nimbrix can autonomously navigate up to five kilometers to its target using an onboard guidance system.

The system’s effectors can either disable individual drones ⁤or disrupt swarms by creating an aerial burst, effectively creating a ‍localized countermeasure.Stefan Öberg, head of Saab’s missile ⁣Systems buisness unit, stated‍ that Nimbrix ⁢is designed to address the escalating challenges posed by readily available, low-cost drone technology.

Versatile Deployment and⁤ Future availability

nimbrix⁣ is a‌ ground-based system engineered for integration onto‍ various vehicle platforms, allowing for ⁤adaptable deployment based on specific customer requirements. Saab is currently engaged ⁣in discussions with potential clients and anticipates initial deliveries beginning in 2026.
