Aravana Availability and Production
The President announced the continuation of current Aravana distribution controls at Sabarimala, maintaining the limit of 20 tins per person. Efforts are underway to ensure Aravana remains accessible to all devotees, with current reserves exceeding 10 lakh tins. This comes after an unexpectedly high demand during the first week of the pilgrimage season, where daily sales averaged 4.5 lakh tins, exceeding the anticipated 3.5 lakh.
While the initial pilgrimage season began with a reserve of 45 lakh Aravana tins, rapid depletion prompted the current measures. Production capacity is currently limited to 3 lakh tins, supplemented by 1 lakh from existing reserves. increasing production in the short term is not feasible. Additional Aravana will be produced during the three-day period after the Mandala Puja, if the temple closes on December 27th, to replenish reserves.
Darshan and Spot Booking
Spot booking for Darshan remains flexible, as permitted by the court. The court has granted leeway to adjust spot booking limits based on devotee arrival numbers, and the current limit of 5000 will continue. This allows devotees to have Darshan without excessively long waits.
An increase in devotees utilizing the Kananapatha route has prompted discussions with the police to manage the flow. Authorities are also coordinating with the Forest Department to issue special passes for those arriving via the Erumeli-Azhuta Kanana Path. The overall aim is to maximize Darshan opportunities while minimizing difficulties for pilgrims.
Food Services and Kerala Oon
Practical challenges related to providing traditional Kerala-style meals, including pappadam, fruit, and stew, are being addressed. implementation of “Kerala Oon” is planned to begin on December 21st.
