Sabrina Carpenter is back with a new summer anthem. following the success of “Espresso,” the pop star has released “Manchild,” a track produced by Jack Antonoff.
The song opens with a playful “Oh boy!” Carpenter sings about dealing with an immature partner. “Manchild,why you always come a-runnin’ to me?/Forget my life,won’t you let an innocent woman be?” she sings. ”Never heard of self care/Half your brain just ain’t there/Manchild, why you always come a-runnin’, takin’ all my lovin’ from me?”
Carpenter teased the “Manchild” release earlier in the week, posting a clip of herself hitchhiking. Billboards also promoted the single, and Carpenter referenced Lana Del Rey’s “Norman Fucking Rockwell” on social media, singing, “Goddamn, manchild.”
The music video for “Manchild” is scheduled to drop Friday at 10 a.m. ET.
Carpenter said she wrote the song with Amy Allen and Antonoff shortly after finishing “Short n’ Sweet.” She added that “Manchild” embodies the “confusing and fun young adult years of life” and feels like “a never ending road trip in the summer.”
