Sacha Jenkins, a celebrated and influential figure in hip-hop culture, ‍has died. News of the hip-hop icon’s death spread via social media.

Jenkins, born ⁤in Philadelphia and raised in Queens, N.Y., leaves behind a legacy of work in journalism, film, and⁣ television. He began his career publishing graphic Scenes & X-Plicit Language, a ‘zine documenting graffiti art. In 1992, he and Haji Akhigbade created Beat-Down Newspaper, ⁢an early hip-hop ⁢publication. Jenkins⁢ co-founded ego trip magazine with ⁣Elliot Wilson in‍ 1994. The magazine, though short-lived with only 13 issues,⁢ led to books and the VH1 television show, ego trip’s The White Rapper Show.

Keith Murphy, a journalist,‍ noted Jenkins’ influence on writers of the late⁤ ’90s.Murphy posted on X, formerly ⁤Twitter, ⁣”WTF…..Dammit. Sacha was one of the writers who influenced my era ⁤of writers and journalists ⁣in the late ’90s. May he rest in power.”
