Five Dallas Suburbs Ranked Among Texas’ Safest Cities

Trophy Club, Parker, Melissa, Murphy, and Colleyville – all Dallas suburbs – have been recognized as some of the safest cities in Texas, according to a new report by SafeWise. Trophy Club took the top spot in the state, followed closely by Parker at number two.

The rankings, released with SafeWise’s State of Safety survey, factored in FBI-reported property and violent crime data for 343 cities, adjusting the data for population size to allow for fair comparisons between metropolitan areas, rural towns, and suburban communities. Melissa secured the fourth position, Murphy ranked seventh, and Colleyville came in at ninth place statewide.

While the rankings offer a snapshot of safety, SafeWise emphasizes that a variety of factors contribute to a city’s safety profile. These include local agency reporting practices, community resources, prevention efforts, and residents’ lived experiences. The site notes that perception of safety doesn’t always align with reported crime statistics.

The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan statistical area had the most cities represented in the SafeWise top 10. The complete list includes: Trophy Club at No. 1, Parker at No. 2, Memorial Villages (Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land) at No. 3, Melissa at No. 4, Fair Oaks Ranch (San Antonio-New Braunfels) at No. 5, Whitehouse (Tyler) at No. 6, Murphy at No. 7, Fulshear (Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land) at No. 8, Colleyville at No. 9, and Lumberton (Beaumont-Port Arthur) at No. 10.

The recognition of these North Texas cities builds on a recent trend of communities in the region performing well in “safe city” surveys. Arlington and Fort Worth were previously named among America’s safest large cities last fall, and Frisco and McKinney were highlighted as some of the nation’s safest suburbs in 2025.

Despite the positive safety rankings, a recent survey revealed that Texans generally feel less safe than the average American. Only 49 percent of respondents in the State of Safety survey reported feeling safe in Texas, compared to a national average of 52 percent. A significant 55 percent of Texans expressed daily concerns about their safety, an increase from 52 percent the previous year. This perception contrasts with reported crime data, as survey participants indicated limited personal experiences with property crime and package theft.

Statewide, Texas is seeing a trend of decreasing violent and property crime rates, although motor vehicle theft is on the rise. According to data from the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Crime in Texas 2023 report, the violent crime rate is 4.44 incidents per 1,000 people, consistent with the national average, while the property crime rate is 23.4 incidents per 1,000 people, slightly higher than the national rate.

The influx of high-income households into cities like Mesquite may also contribute to a sense of economic strength and potentially influence local priorities, according to a recent SmartAsset analysis. Mesquite experienced a 52.3 percent growth rate in households earning at least $200,000 between 2023 and 2024, bringing the total number of such households to 3,717. This growth is attributed, in part, to the development of a 1,400-acre master-planned community and the upcoming debut of a BJ’s Wholesale Club warehouse in early 2026.
