Salesforce Promises AI Digital Teammates for Slack Users
Updated May 29, 2025
Salesforce plans to equip every Slack user with an AI-powered ”digital teammate,” capable of summarizing channels and taking notes during meetings. This initiative, dubbed ”AgentForce,” aims to integrate artificial intelligence directly into the workflow, according to Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff.
Benioff, speaking shortly after Salesforce’s $8 billion agreement to acquire Informatica, highlighted the potential for an “incredible AI revolution” driven by these software agents. He cited Slack, which salesforce acquired in 2021 for $27 billion, as a prime example of where this technology will be deployed.
“With AgentForce in Slack, every employee has a digital teammate that can make notes for your meeting, summarize your Slack channels,” Benioff said. He also noted the real-time presence of AI agents within Slack channels.
Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has cautioned that AI could displace a meaningful portion of entry-level white-collar jobs. However, Benioff remains optimistic, stating that Salesforce is “repositioning” employees internally and actively seeking new hires.
Benioff acknowledged the limitations of current AI technology, noting that it has not reached full consciousness and lacks 100% accuracy due to its reliance on word models. Recent research supports this, indicating that AI chatbots have not yet significantly impacted earnings or productivity.
Salesforce’s announcement coincided with the release of its Q1 results, revealing a 7.6% year-over-year revenue increase to $9.8 billion and a net income of $1.54 billion.
What’s next
Salesforce will continue to integrate its AgentForce AI technology into Slack and other platforms, aiming to enhance productivity and streamline workflows for its users. The company plans to further develop its AI capabilities while addressing concerns about job displacement through internal repositioning and continued hiring efforts.
