August Egg Company Issues Recall Amid Salmonella Outbreak
A multi-state salmonella outbreak traced to eggs from August Egg Company has prompted a recall, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.the egg recall impacts nine states and has already sickened 79 individuals, resulting in 21 hospitalizations.
The salmonella outbreak has been linked to eggs sold to both restaurants and retailers. August Egg Company’s recall, announced Friday, covers all varieties of eggs the company distributes, including organic, cage-free brown, and omega-3 enriched eggs.
The affected states include Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Washington, and Wyoming, according to the CDC.
The CDC reports that illnesses have been reported in seven states, all connected to the same strain of Salmonella.
Consumers are urged to check egg cartons for plant code number P-6562 or CA5330, along with Julian Dates between 32 and 126. Recalled retail eggs are packaged in fiber or plastic cartons with the specified codes printed on one side.
