Salvador de Bahia ex-congress completes preparations – Togotimes

Salvador de Bahia hosts between August 29 and 31, 2024, in the presence of Minister Robert Dussey and the president of the NGO RAPEC, Mr. Ayité Dossavi, the former congress of the African Diaspora and Afro-descendants as a prelude to the 9th. A congress on pan-Africanism planned from October 29 to November 2 in Lomé.

This 6th pre-congress on Pan-Africanism, the last before the Lomé congress, is given under the theme: “Memory, restoration, reparation and reconstruction”.

The choice of the theme is explained by the fact that Africa cannot come together with Afro descendants without talking about Memory. This memory, it must be noted, is slavery, from the tragic experience of crossing the Atlantic. Memory work makes it possible to break the silence surrounding the history of slavery and inscribe it in the collective memory of humanity.

In terms of restoration and reparation, they raise the issue of justice in a historical dimension. The African community in Africa and elsewhere in the world has suffered many injustices and unacceptable situations and it is important to raise the question of compensation.

The reconstruction work, on the other hand, will allow the African community to develop a common memory of past trauma, to restore or strengthen the relationship between Africans and Afro-descendants cooled by distance and recriminations.

In 2023 the decision was made to organize the 9th Pan-African Congress in Lomé between October 29 and November 2, 2024 on the theme: “Renewal of Pan-Africanism and the role of Africa in reforming multilateral institutions: mobilizing the resource and reinventing yourself to action.”

The 9th Pan-African Congress in Lomé is a flagship activity of the Decade of African Origins 2021-2031 and African Diasporas declared by the African Union.

The High Committee responsible for the decade which includes 15 countries, chaired by Togo, decided to hold six (6) preparatory conferences in six regions, as a prelude to the 9th Pan-African Congress in Lomé.
