Sam Gardiner, a contestant on “race Across The World,” has died at 24 following a car accident, his family announced. Gardiner appeared on the 2019 series with his mother, Jo.
Greater manchester Police said the single-vehicle accident occurred Monday night on the A34 in Gatley, near Cheadle. Gardiner died Thursday from his injuries. No other vehicles were involved.
His parents,Jo and Andrew,released a statement expressing their devastation. “sam left us far too soon,” they said, adding that they would hold onto memories of his “light, joy and energy.” They noted that “Race Across The World” ignited his passion for adventure and travel.
“He was willing to go wherever the trail might led and he touched everyone he met on the road,” the family said. “Sam brought warmth, laughter and a smattering of chaos wherever he went. He leaves behind a huge hole in our hearts.”
Gardiner worked as a landscape gardener on Scotland’s west coast. Besides his parents, he is survived by his brothers, William and Charlie, and his stepmother, Justine.
