Samaritan’s Purse has deployed relief resources to southern Mississippi following a series of devastating tornadoes that struck the region on May 6, 2026. The storms caused widespread destruction, damaging hundreds of homes and leaving thousands of families without power across multiple counties.
Lamar and Lincoln counties in the south-central region of the state were among the hardest hit areas. Along with the tornadoes, the region experienced heavy rain, large hail and strong winds that damaged neighborhoods and knocked over power lines.
In response to the devastation, the organization mobilized two Disaster Response Units (DRUs). These units are tractor-trailers stocked with heavy-duty tools and equipment required to clear debris and stabilize damaged structures.
The relief efforts are being coordinated through local host churches to deploy manpower to homeowners in need of assistance.

In Lamar County, Disaster Response Unit #3 departed on the morning of May 8, 2026, from the organization’s warehouse in Wilkes, North Carolina. This unit is stationed at the First Baptist Church, located at 77 Shelby Speights Drive in Purvis, Mississippi.
