Breaking Down Barriers: Samsung Technology Fosters Connection at Milano Cortina 2026

Milano Cortina 2026 is proving to be more than just a showcase of athletic prowess; it’s a demonstration of how technology can bridge cultural divides and enhance the experience for both competitors and fans. Samsung, a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, is at the forefront of this effort, deploying innovative solutions designed to connect people across language barriers and geographical distances.

A key component of Samsung’s strategy revolves around its Galaxy AI-powered Interpreter feature, integrated into Galaxy devices provided to volunteers supporting the Games. This technology is proving invaluable in facilitating seamless communication, particularly in a multi-cultural environment like the Olympic Village and across the geographically dispersed venues of the Winter Games.

Emmanuel Mantilla Jr., a volunteer from the Philippines assisting National Olympic Committees, shared how the Interpreter feature has transformed his approach to assisting visitors. “English is widely spoken, but not everyone feels confident using it,” Mantilla explained. “Before, I would hesitate. I would look for someone else who spoke their language and wait for that person to assist.” Now, equipped with the on-device translation capabilities, Mantilla feels empowered to directly offer help, fostering a more welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.

Mantilla recounted a specific instance at a tram stop where he was able to assist a spectator struggling to find directions to the ice hockey arena, a venue outside his assigned area. “It wasn’t even my venue,” he said. “The person had difficulty speaking English. So, I used the Interpreter to explain which tram to take and how to transfer to the shuttle going to the arena. Before, I might have tried to find someone else to help. Now, I can assist immediately.” This anecdote highlights the practical impact of the technology in overcoming everyday communication hurdles.

The benefits of the Interpreter feature extend beyond volunteer interactions, reaching the athletes themselves. Xaverri Williams, representing Trinidad and Tobago in bobsleigh, noted how the technology eases communication with athletes from diverse backgrounds. “The translation feature is especially helpful in understanding people who don’t speak English fluently,” Williams stated. “Having something that helps bridge that gap makes communication much easier and smoother.”

Italian figure skater Tomas Guarino Sabate echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of clear communication in fostering connections. “Most people speak English,” he said. “But there are definitely moments when someone isn’t as comfortable, or when you don’t know the right word yourself. Having a tool that allows live translation can be really useful in those situations.” Guarino Sabate also believes that mobile technology, in general, enhances both athlete-to-athlete interaction and fan engagement, allowing athletes to share their experiences more readily.

Samsung’s commitment to connectivity extends beyond the Olympic Village. Galaxy Charging Stations are strategically placed throughout Milan, Bormio, and Livigno, ensuring spectators can stay connected and share their experiences in real-time. The Samsung Victory Truck is also traveling across these cities, offering immersive Olympic Games experiences, including augmented reality interactions with the Games’ mascots, Tina and Milo, and providing visitors with digital keepsakes.

The integration of Galaxy S25 Ultra devices into the Opening Ceremony’s live broadcast is another example of Samsung’s innovative approach. Working with the Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), these devices will capture dynamic perspectives alongside traditional broadcast cameras, expanding coverage and enriching the viewing experience.

a select group of volunteers are equipped with Galaxy devices featuring Interpreter, powered by Galaxy AI, to facilitate communication with athletes, officials, and visitors. This on-device processing ensures fast and reliable translations, even in remote locations with limited connectivity.

Samsung’s efforts at February 3, 2026, as initially outlined, are not limited to technological solutions. The company also unveiled an exclusive Galaxy Z Flip7 Olympic Edition, designed to support athletes throughout their journey at Milano Cortina 2026. Details regarding the specific features of this edition were not provided, but its creation underscores Samsung’s dedication to the Olympic movement and its participants.

As Milano Cortina 2026 progresses, Samsung’s technology is demonstrably working to minimize the impact of language, geography, and distance, fostering a more connected and inclusive Olympic experience. The company’s focus on seamless communication and immersive experiences is not only enhancing the Games for athletes and fans but also setting a new standard for how technology can be leveraged to bring people together through the power of sport.
