Samsung Galaxy S24 and S25 users are reporting significant battery drain and overheating issues following the April 2026 security update, with many pointing to the Knox Matrix security feature as a potential cause.

According to reports from Android Authority and PiunikaWeb, the problems began appearing shortly after the update rolled out to devices, with the Galaxy S25 series receiving the update starting April 6, 2026, and the Galaxy S24 series receiving it around mid-April. Since then, users have taken to Samsung’s community forum and social platforms to describe rapid battery depletion and abnormal device heating.

One Galaxy S24 owner reported that their device’s battery lasts less than three hours on a single charge and takes up to five hours to reach a full charge. Meanwhile, a Galaxy S25 user stated their phone drops to zero battery after only two hours of use. These claims highlight the severity of the issue, which appears to go beyond typical post-update battery fluctuations.

Multiple users have shared screenshots from their device’s battery usage settings showing unusually high consumption by Knox Matrix, Samsung’s hardware-backed security platform designed to protect sensitive data through isolation and real-time monitoring. In several cases, Knox Matrix was observed consuming a disproportionate share of battery power, leading users to suspect it is running excessively or malfunctioning after the update.

While Samsung has not officially confirmed Knox Matrix as the root cause, the timing of the reports and the consistency of the battery usage patterns suggest a possible link between the April 2026 security update and increased background activity from the security suite. The update, part of Samsung’s regular monthly security patch cycle, was intended to address vulnerabilities but may have inadvertently triggered unintended behavior in system-level processes.

Neither Samsung’s official support channels nor its press releases have issued a public acknowledgment of the issue as of the time of reporting. However, the volume of user complaints across forums such as Reddit’s r/Android and Samsung’s own community boards indicates a widespread concern among affected users.

Until an official response or patch is issued, users experiencing the problem are advised to monitor battery usage through device settings, consider disabling non-essential features tied to Knox Matrix if available, and await further guidance from Samsung regarding a potential fix or rollback option.
