Samsung Galaxy S26: First Look at Design, AI & Camera Innovations | Unpacked 2026

Samsung Galaxy S26: First Look at Design, AI & Camera Innovations | Unpacked 2026

February 25, 2026 Lisa Park - Tech Editor Tech

Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S26 series at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 in San Francisco on February 25, 2026. The new lineup, the third generation of Samsung’s Galaxy AI-powered phones, focuses on integrating artificial intelligence more deeply into everyday mobile tasks, alongside performance improvements and design refinements.

Design: A Focus on Refinement

The Galaxy S26 series—comprising the S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra—boasts a sleeker and lighter design than its predecessors. The phones feature rounded curvatures and a unified color palette across the range. Notably, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is 0.3mm thinner than the previous Ultra model and weighs 214 grams, aiming for improved portability without sacrificing grip security. The series will be available in Cobalt Violet, Black, Sky Blue, and White.

Privacy Display: Shielding Content from Prying Eyes

A key innovation debuting with the Galaxy S26 Ultra is the Privacy Display. This feature limits side-angle viewing without requiring a separate screen protector. The display remains clear when viewed directly, but visibility is restricted from the sides, offering a degree of on-screen content protection in public spaces like crowded transportation or elevators. Developed over more than five years, the technology can be assigned to the side button’s double-press function for quick activation. The system blocks views from above and below as well as the sides.

Galaxy AI: Proactive and Contextual Assistance

Samsung is doubling down on AI integration with the S26 series. The new “Now Nudge” feature aims to reduce app switching by proactively surfacing relevant information based on context. For example, if a user receives a message asking about evening plans, Galaxy AI will check the calendar for conflicts and display a tailored notification. This builds upon existing AI features like Circle to Search, which has been expanded to support multi-element searches – allowing users to circle multiple items in an image to initiate a search for similar products or information.

The S26 series leverages multiple AI agents – Bixby, Gemini, and Perplexity – to provide a more versatile and intuitive experience. Users can utilize natural language commands to adjust settings, eliminating the need to navigate complex menus. An example provided by Samsung demonstrates that simply stating “My eyes feel tired” will prompt Bixby to suggest activating Eye comfort shield. This integration aims to streamline daily routines and reduce the cognitive load on users.

Camera: AI-Powered Pro-Level Photography

The Galaxy S26 series introduces advancements in mobile photography, powered by AI. The Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and 10x optical-quality zoom. The telephoto lens also benefits from a wider aperture for improved low-light performance. Samsung highlighted improvements to its Nightography feature, demonstrating vivid and detailed images captured in dimly lit environments.

The AI Image Signal Processor (ISP), previously used for the rear camera, has now been extended to the front-facing camera. This enhancement aims to capture finer details – such as individual hair strands and eyebrows – while maintaining natural skin tones. Beyond image capture, the S26 series offers AI-powered editing tools. The upgraded Photo Assist feature allows users to remove unwanted objects from images and seamlessly add new elements. For instance, the system can reconstruct a portion of a cake that has been eaten, making it appear untouched. It can also adjust the time of day in a photo or modify wardrobe details to match a desired mood.

The Creative Studio feature further expands creative possibilities. Users can generate custom stickers from simple text prompts – such as “Please draw me a dog” – for use in messaging or photo editing. The feature also supports the creation of invitations, profile cards, and wallpapers.

Samsung positions the Galaxy S26 series as the culmination of its efforts in AI-powered mobile technology, building on the foundation laid by the S24 series. The company emphasizes that the S26 series delivers personalized experiences that go beyond simple intent recognition, offering a more powerful and intuitive mobile experience.
