Samsung Electronics has introduced two new ringtones featuring classical masterpieces for the Galaxy S26 series. The company is utilizing centuries-old music to differentiate its latest flagship device in a competitive smartphone market and to establish a unified audio identity across its product ecosystem.
The new audio additions feature works by Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. These pieces are designed to provide a more immersive and refined listening experience for users during their everyday interactions with the device.
The Sound Philosophy
The introduction of these melodies is part of a broader sound design concept established by Samsung called Inspired by Nature
. This philosophy is applied to all interaction sounds within the Galaxy lineup, ranging from touch sounds to ringtones.
The specific pieces selected for the Galaxy S26 series align with this nature-centric approach:
- Bach’s
Prélude
from Cello Suite No. 1 was chosen for its symmetry, repetition, and harmony, which Samsung states evoke natural patterns such as ocean waves and plant growth. - Handel’s
Alla Hornpipe
from Water Music Suite No. 2 is recognized for its structured progression and flowing rhythm. The piece was originally performed on the River Thames for King George.
Global Production and Collaboration
To ensure high sound quality, Samsung collaborated with global audio experts and recorded the pieces at Abbey Road Studios in London, the world’s first recording studio. The performances were delivered by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, a renowned symphony orchestra based in the United Kingdom.
The production process highlighted an East-West collaboration between audio teams in London and Seoul. Jonathan Allan managed the recording and mixing process in London, while Tae Ho Lee of MiXNBLE led the mastering process in Seoul.
Market Differentiation and Nostalgia
The move to incorporate classical music is a strategic attempt to distinguish the Galaxy S26 from other flagships by focusing on audio branding rather than traditional hardware specifications like chip speeds or camera capabilities.
There is also a nostalgic element to the release. Both the Bach and Handel pieces were previously utilized as ringtones during Samsung’s Anycall era in the 1990s and 2000s. By reviving these melodies, Samsung aims to create a familiar callback for long-time users who owned devices during that period.
This integration of classical masterpieces serves as an extension of the Inspired by Nature
identity, which Samsung is now pushing across its entire Galaxy product lineup to create a cohesive and recognizable audio brand.
