Samsung Galaxy S25 owners running the recent Android 17 and One UI 9 software upgrade are encountering a curious bug that causes reported battery health percentages to decline almost daily, Galaxy Club reported. The metric affected indicates the actual physical condition of the battery rather than its current charge level.

Users can check this status by navigating to Settings, then Battery, and selecting Batterygegevens under the Conditie batterij heading, or Battery health in English. According to the reports, this specific reading has been dropping nearly every day on certain devices since the installation of the recent software upgrade.

Scope of the Bug and Affected Devices

The issue appears primarily on phones within the Galaxy S25 series, for which the software upgrade was released the previous week. Devices that launched directly with Android 17, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, and Galaxy S26 FE, have not shown any such problems so far.

The battery health indication feature itself is only available on phones from 2025 and newer. Users can check it on the Galaxy S25 and S26 generations, as well as models like the Galaxy A56 and A57, while older devices like the Galaxy S24 and A55 lack the metric.

Software Measurement Versus Hardware Decline

Analysts note that the battery is likely not physically degrading faster, but rather that the software has changed how it displays, measures, or calculates the condition.

Android 17 Rollout and Further Updates

Samsung is rolling out the Android 17 update to additional smartphones, including the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Ultra, S25 FE, and S25 Edge. Folding phones receiving the update comprise the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Flip 7 FE, and Z Fold 7, alongside the inclusion of the September 2026 security patch. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra are receiving One UI 9 globally, with build number S928BXXU6EZIF deployed for beta users in India. The international market Galaxy A57 is also receiving One UI 9 via the A576BXXU6 BZIE firmware on the wider European market.
