Rising‍ Demand for ⁣AI Fuels ‌Memory Crisis

The surge in ⁤popularity of productive ⁤AI assistants-such as⁣ OpenAI’s ChatGPT, ⁢Google’s Gemini, adn‍ microsoft’s Copilot-has dramatically increased demand for⁢ AI-powered tools. these applications rely on AI accelerators, typically located in server farms, which require⁢ substantial amounts of high bandwidth memory (HBM). Even the devices ⁣used to *access* these AI tools need increased memory capacity for smooth operation.

This⁢ heightened demand has created‍ a ⁤notable shortage of memory chips, driving prices up by as much as 50 percent. Industry analysts predict consumers will ⁤soon‌ feel‍ the impact of this “memory crisis,” and this⁢ includes purchasers of products from major manufacturers like ‌Samsung.

Samsung to Increase Prices Amidst Chip Shortage

According to Sammobile, Samsung plans to raise prices on⁢ manny⁤ of its products, particularly‌ smartphones, due⁢ to the rising cost of memory chips. The extent of ‍these ‍price increases has not yet been disclosed. This situation is noteworthy given that Samsung is a leading global manufacturer of memory chips.

Samsung is not alone in responding to the shortage. Other brands are also⁤ planning price adjustments.⁤ For example, Xiaomi launched the Redmi K90 model‌ (unavailable in Türkiye) at a 7.5 percent premium compared to its predecessor, as reported ⁢by Sammobile.

Long-Term Outlook: Crisis ‌Expected to Persist

experts anticipate the memory chip shortage will continue for⁤ several years. ⁣Current projections suggest the crisis could last until 2028, impacting the cost of electronics and AI-related technologies throughout ⁤the period.
