Samsung Electronics is expected to release an entry-level model along with a premium smartphone early next year, solidifying its position in the low-end market amidst the growing demand for premium smartphones with artificial intelligence (AI).
According to foreign media, Samsung Electronics plans to release the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy A56 (5G) series models early next year. The Galaxy A model has been a significant contributor to Samsung Electronics’ smartphone business, consistently ranking among the top 10 in smartphone shipments every year.
The A56 model, expected to launch in the first half of next year, is likely to feature a dual SIM card slot and may be equipped with the “Exynos 1580” chipset, which boasts more powerful performance than its predecessors. The Exynos 1580 chip consists of a main core clocked at 2.91GHz, three high-end cores clocked at 2.6GHz, and four efficiency cores clocked at 1.95GHz, along with the Xclipse 540 graphics processing unit (GPU).
Analysts predict that the A56 will offer significantly better performance thanks to the new CPU and GPU. According to Geekbench scores, the Exynos 1580 is as powerful as the Snapdragon 888, the fastest processor used in an Android smartphone in 2021.
The expansion of the Galaxy A56 model lineup aligns with the growth of the entry-level smartphone market. In the global smartphone market, low-priced products accounted for 37% of the total market in the second quarter, with over 100 million units sold.
Xiaomi Redmi 13C 4G product had the highest share of low-priced smartphone products in the entire smartphone market with 4.1%, followed by Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy A05 with a market share of 4%. The industry expects that the trend of incorporating AI performance will gradually spread to low-end smartphones, with high specifications being a key driver of growth in the low-priced smartphone market.
Tarun Pathak, researcher at Counterpoint Research, notes that “Generative AI is revolutionizing smartphones” and predicts that “by 2024, generative AI will account for about 18% of total smartphone shipments.”
