Samsung to End Gesture Navigation on Android
Table of Contents
Samsung users who prefer gesture navigation might soon have another option to choose from. Evidence suggests the company is considering reintroducing a classic navigation picker – the one that lets you easily switch between gesture and button navigation – directly within the settings menu. Currently, accessing this option requires a somewhat hidden workaround using the “Nav bar gestures” toggle.

Currently, Samsung’s One UI offers gesture navigation as a primary option, but switching between different gesture styles, or back to traditional buttons, isn’t as straightforward as it once was. The potential return of the dedicated navigation picker would streamline this process substantially, giving you more control over how you interact with your device.
Why This Matters for Samsung Users
For many, gesture navigation is the preferred way to navigate a smartphone. It feels more modern, immersive, and makes better use of screen real estate. Though, not everyone loves gestures! Some users find the traditional three-button setup more intuitive and reliable.
Having a readily accessible navigation picker means you can quickly and easily switch between these options to find what works best for you – and change it on the fly as needed. It’s about personalization and giving users the freedom to tailor their phone experience.
One UI 8.5 or One UI 8?
that said, this is mostly a guess for the time being.Samsung might add this option in One UI 8.5 (and that does seem to be the most logical conclusion), but there’s no guarantee.
What do you think about the potential change? Would you welcome the return of a dedicated navigation picker?
Simultaneously occurring, we’re still waiting for the full rollout of One UI 8 outside of Samsung’s new foldables, which should be any time now. This latest update brings a host of improvements, including enhanced camera features, a redesigned Quick Panel, and improved privacy controls.
