Samsung Electronics announced the launch of the One UI 9 beta program on May 12, 2026, introducing its latest software overlay built on Android 17. The beta program, which begins the week of May 12, 2026, is initially available exclusively for the Galaxy S26 series.

The rollout is limited to specific regional markets, with supported countries including Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This beta phase allows users to test new features across creativity, accessibility, and security before the software is finalized for a wider release.

According to Samsung, One UI 9 is designed to provide expanded creative tools, customization options, a more accessible mobile experience, and stronger protection against potential security threats.

Creative and Interface Enhancements

The update introduces several tools aimed at personalization, and productivity. Samsung Notes has been updated with new creative assets, including decorative tapes and a more extensive variety of pen line styles to enhance note-taking and digital sketching.

Integration between system apps has also been improved. The Contacts app now features direct access to Creative Studio, a tool that enables users to create personalized profile cards without needing to switch between different applications.

Samsung has also redesigned the Quick Panel to offer users more granular control over the interface layout. The updated panel allows for the independent adjustment of brightness, sound, and the media player. The company has introduced more size options for the panel to better accommodate individual user preferences.

Accessibility and System Utility

One UI 9 includes significant updates to accessibility features. A new adjustable Mouse Key speed has been implemented to allow for smoother and more precise cursor control for users who rely on this input method.

The update also introduces a combined TalkBack package. This new implementation merges accessibility features that were previously offered as separate packages from Google and Samsung, streamlining the screen-reading experience into a single unified tool.

To assist with readability, Samsung added a feature called Text Spotlight. This tool displays selected text in a floating window, making the content appear larger or more clearly defined to help users read specific snippets of information more easily.

Security Protocols and Future Roadmap

The beta includes enhanced protections against suspicious software and potential security threats. The system is now designed to detect high-risk applications and trigger a series of security actions: warning the user, blocking the execution and installation of the app, and recommending the deletion of the software through security policy updates.

While the current beta focuses on the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung stated that the full experience of One UI 9 will be introduced with upcoming Galaxy flagship devices later in 2026. These future releases are expected to include advanced AI features intended to make mobile interaction more effortless.
