San Antonio Man Sentenced to 70 Years for Deadly Stabbing

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A Bexar County judge has sentenced a San Antonio man to 70 years in prison for the December 2024 stabbing death of Michael Bowman. The sentence was handed down on Friday by Judge Ron Rangel of the 379th Criminal District Court.

Carl Mott, 62, was convicted in January of murder and tampering with evidence in connection with the stabbing, which occurred in the 2600 block of Northeast Loop 410. According to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, the crime stemmed from a long-term extramarital affair between Mott and Bowman’s wife, Crystal Bowman.

San Antonio police reported that Mott stabbed Bowman, 52, in the upper left shoulder at a bus stop. Bowman and his wife sought help at a nearby restaurant, identifying Mott as the attacker. Bowman later died from his injuries, and the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide.

Investigators say that approximately 10 minutes after the attack, surveillance footage showed Mott discarding the knife used in the stabbing in bushes near his workplace. He was arrested roughly 11 hours later at his West Side home.

The case gained significant attention, with details emerging about the complex relationships involved. Prosecutors presented Crystal Bowman’s eyewitness testimony and the surveillance video as key evidence in securing the conviction.

“This was a senseless act of violence fueled by jealousy that cost a man his life,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in a statement released by Law & Crime. “Today’s sentence ensures the defendant is held accountable and that justice is delivered for the victim and his family.”

Mott is also currently awaiting trial on a separate charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, stemming from an incident that occurred on October 16, 2024, according to Bexar County court records. This adds another layer to the legal challenges facing Mott as he begins his lengthy prison sentence.

The sentencing marks the culmination of a case that has drawn considerable local interest. The 70-year sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the impact it had on the victim’s family and the community. The conviction and sentencing were reported by KSAT, Fox San Antonio, and Law & Crime, among other outlets.
