San Antonio, TX – Get ready for some new voices on your morning commute, San Antonio. Teh Alamo City’s radio scene is buzzing with change as two popular stations announce fresh lineups for their morning shows.

After a three-year run, the “Frito & Katy” show has signed off at Country station Y100 (KCYY). Tucker “Frito” Young and Katy Dempsey, who joined the station in January 2022 from Bryan Broadcasting’s Candy 95 (KNDE) in College Station, TX, are no longer with the station.

Young and Dempsey’s departure marks the end of a long and successful partnership. Young, who began his radio career at Bryan Broadcasting in 2003, climbed the ranks to become Operations Manager and Program Director. Dempsey joined KNDE in 2011 and quickly rose to middays before joining Young on mornings.

Meanwhile,Hot AC station Hits 105.3 (KSMG) is welcoming a nationally syndicated morning show, “Ted, Drex & Kara,” originating from Atlanta’s B98.5 (WSB-FM).Hosted by Tad Lemire, PJ “Drex” Rener, and Kara Leigh, the show has been a staple in Atlanta since 2017. “ted, Drex & Kara” is already heard in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Mix 96.5 (KRAV), making San Antonio the third market for the popular trio.

The show fills the void left by the departure of Tony Cortez and Jenny Lee from KSMG in November 2023. Cortez has since returned to the Cox Media Group family, taking over mornings at Classic Hits station 101.1 KONO-FM.

These changes highlight the ever-evolving nature of the radio industry, with stations constantly adapting to keep listeners tuned in.

Carlos: I haven’t! What’s going on?

Maria: Well, for starters, “Frito & Katy” are out at Y100.Can you believe it? They were just there for three years…

Carlos: No way! They seemed like a good fit. I liked their energy. What happened?

Maria: No official word yet, but it seems like they’re gone. They had a long history together, though. Frito started back in 2003 in College Station. Remember Candy 95?

Carlos: Yeah, vaguely.

Maria: Katy joined him there in 2011, and they eventually made the move to Y100 together in 2022. It’s kind of amazing they built their careers together!
