San Diego will host the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon the first weekend of June, drawing an estimated 30,000 runners to Balboa Park. The event includes a 5K, a half marathon, and a full marathon.
The 5K race begins at 7 a.m. Saturday in Balboa Park. The starting line is set for Presidents Way and Park Boulevard, with the finish line on Balboa Drive. Sixth Avenue will be closed from Hawthorne Street to Upas Street.

Sunday’s half marathon and marathon will both start at 6:15 a.m. The starting line is located at Sixth Avenue and quince Street in Balboa park, and the finish line is at Ash Street and Union Street. Significant traffic impacts are anticipated from Mission Bay Park to fashion Valley, and from Friars Road to Golden Hill.
Road Closures
Road closures will primarily be in effect from 5:30 a.m.to 3:30 p.m.Sunday. However, officials say roads will reopen as soon as the final participant has passed and course materials are cleared.
Expect heavy traffic and delays near Waterfront Park. Several on and off-ramps for state Route 163, Interstate 5, Interstate 8, and Interstate 805 will be closed between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Southbound SR-163 will remain open to I-5.
