San Jose’s remarkable start to the 2026 MLS season has reached new heights, with the Earthquakes securing nine wins in their first ten matches under head coach Bruce Arena.
The team’s historic run continued with a 3-2 victory over St. Louis CITY SC on April 25, 2026, at Energizer Park, marking the first time in club history that San Jose has improved to a 9-1-0 record.
The Earthquakes struck first in the eighth minute when Nick Fernandez drove into the box and set up Preston Judd for his team-leading sixth league goal, putting San Jose ahead 1-0.
St. Louis responded in the second half with goals in the 52nd and 53rd minutes to take a 2-1 lead, but San Jose answered back with resilience. Timo Werner converted a penalty kick in the 69th minute to tie the game at 2-2.
Werner then delivered the go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute, volleying home a cross from Ousseni Bouda to secure the 3-2 win and extend San Jose’s winning streak to six consecutive victories.
The victory marked San Jose’s first win over St. Louis CITY SC and reinforced their position at the top of the Western Conference standings. With the win, the Earthquakes became the first MLS team this century to win nine of their first ten matches.
Werner’s performance was particularly notable, as he recorded his second multi-goal game of the season and became the first player in San Jose history to record at least one goal and one assist in three consecutive games.
Head coach Bruce Arena praised the team’s character, noting their ability to overcome adversity: “This is one of the few times we’ve been behind in the game, and I think it was good to see the character of the team.”
The Earthquakes’ strong start has been built on both offensive production and defensive resilience, having allowed only four goals through their first ten matches – tied for the fewest in the league.
With the victory over St. Louis, San Jose extended their unbeaten streak and maintained sole possession of first place in the Western Conference table as they continued their pursuit of the Supporters’ Shield.
